GeneEd has established a Scientific Content Providers (SCPs) program
in order to identify external top domain experts who can assist GeneEd
with courseware development. SCPs provide quality, up-to-date content
for courses, help in the creation and storyboarding process, and assess
and validate the completed courses before their release to the public.
SCPs also serve to cross-check each others' courses, and bring access
to their colleagues and laboratories who can test and certify courses
before their release.
GeneEd's Scientific Content Providers (SCPs) Include:
Rhonda Bohn, M.P.H., D.Sc. – Consultant Epidemiologist,
Division of Pharmacoepidemiology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard
Medical School. Rhonda is a consultant focusing on Pharmaceutical and
Biotechnology corporation sales force training. She is an expert in the
field of pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics.
Stacey Bolk, Ph.D. – Scientist, Lander Laboratory,
Whitehead/MIT Genome Center. Stacey has a background in human genetics
and is an expert in the field of SNPs and polymorphisms. Stacey provided
content for GeneEd's advanced course, "SNPs: Identification and Uses".
Cathleen Brdlik, Ph.D. – Postdoctoral Fellow,
Department of Therapeutic Radiology, Yale Medical School. Cathleen’s
most recent degree is a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental
Biology from Yale University.
Barry Bunin, Ph.D. – Founder, Libraria, Inc; author
of "Combinatorial Chemistry." Barry is an expert in the field
of combinatorial chemistry. Barry is a pioneer in solid-phase combinatorial
synthesis, and provided content for a course in advanced Combinatorial
Chemistry.
Annie Chan, M.D. – Resident in Ophthalmology, Stanford
University School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Tufts University
School of Medicine. Annie provided content for our course on Ophthalmology.
Michelle Cargill, Ph.D. – Scientist, Lander Laboratory,

Peter Vincente Chin-Hong, M.D. – Peter is a Fellow
in Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco
and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is an expert
on AIDS and other viral infections and has directed international research
in Western Samoa and Australia. Peter created GeneEd’s course on
Acid-Related Digestive Disorders.
Kristina Cobb, M.S., Ph.D. – Clinical Assistant
Professor, Department of Health Research and Policy, Stanford University.
Kristina’s master’s degree is in statistics and her doctorate
is in epidemiology. Kristina provided content for our BioStatistics course.
Caroline Fisher, M.D. – Private practice Pacific Eye Specialists, Clinical Instructor Stanford Department of Ophthalmology, Glaucoma Fellowship Stanford University, Ophthalmology Residency at NYU/Manhattan Eye, Ear, Throat Hospital. In addition to GeneEd's catalog courses on Glaucoma, Caroline has written a textbook chapter on Glaucoma wound modulation and healing, and has served as editor on a Visual Field Testing texbook chapter.
Karen J. Friday, M.D. – Clinical Professor, Stanford
University School of Medicine; Staff Physician, PAVAHCS. Karen has published
numerous research articles and book chapters on cardiovascular medicine,
and was a former director of clinical departments at Roche Bioscience
and Syntex Research Scotland. She received a Department of Medicine Teaching
Award in Cardiology (2003) from Stanford and has special competency in
pacing and defibrillators. She created our course on Atrial Fibrillation.
Nat Goodman, Ph.D. – An independent bioinformatics
consultant, he was a founding member and Associate Director of the Whitehead/MIT
Center for Genome Research, where he ran the informatics core. He also
ran a bioinformatics research group at The Jackson Laboratory, and a bioinformatics
marketing team at Compaq Computer Corporation. He has served on the faculties
of Harvard University and Boston University. Nat provided content for
GeneEd's Microarray Informatics course.
Gita Rani Gupta, M.D. – Resident in Internal Medicine,
University of Oslo. She obtained her medical degree from the University
of Oslo in Norway, where she is currently specializing in ENT. Her medical
background focused on psychiatry and neurosciences. Gita provided content
for our course on Bipolar Disorder.
ATul Jain, M.D. – Vitreo-retinal fellow and clinical
instructor at Jules Stein Eye Institute. He obtained his medical degree
from UCLA and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Stanford University.
He provided content for our course in Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
Geeta Kadambi, Ph.D. – Sr. Scientist, Molecular
Dynamics Corp. Geeta is an expert in the field of microarrays and bioinformatics.
Geeta was previously a scientist at Hyseq Inc. and conducted postdoctoral
research at Stanford University. Geeta provided content for advanced courses
in Microarrays and Bioinformatics.
Ellen Kuwana, M.S. – Ellen received her degree
in Biochemistry with an emphasis on Neuroscience. For eight years, she
was a staff writer for the University of Washington’s educational
Web site, “Neuroscience for Kids.” She currently works as
a freelance medical writer and editor.
Joseph C. Liao, M.D. – Assistant Professor of
Urology, Stanford University School of Medicine. Joseph provided content
for our Overactive Bladder course.
Y. Joyce Liao, M.D., Ph.D. – Joyce is the primary
Neuro-Ophthalmologist at the Departments of Ophthalmology and Neurology
& Neurological Sciences and the Director of the Human Eye Movement
Lab at Stanford. Joyce serves on the GeneEd CME committee, and developed
the original Stroke and Dementia courses for GeneEd.
Dinesh Patel, Ph.D. – Vice President of Research,
Versicor Corp. Previously Sr. Scientist at Affymax Research Institute.
Dinesh is an expert in the field of synthetic medicinal chemistry. Dinesh
was a medicinal chemist at Bristol-Myers Squibb, head of a combinatorial
chemistry group at Affymax, and co-founder (along with Eric Gordon) of
Versicor. Dinesh provided content for an advanced Combinatorial Chemistry
course.
Shani Peretz, M.S., Ph.D. – Lead Biology Teacher,
Peddie School. Shani obtained her Master’s and Ph.D. (Genetics)
from Yale University. Her research expertise covers genomic imprinting,
medical genetics, and genetic control of tumor progression. She has many
years of experience in teaching science and technology to broad audiences.
Shani provided content for our Breast Cancer Patient Education course.
Raji Pillai, Ph.D. – Sr. Scientist, Affymetrix
Corp; graduate of the Brown Lab at Stanford University; research scientist
at Affymetrix Corp. Raji is an expert in the field of microarrays and
biochips. Raji provided content for GeneEd's advanced course, "Microarrays."
Jack Pollard, Ph.D. – Principal Investigator of
Bioinformatics at 3rd Millennium Inc., a world leader in bioinformatics
consulting and systems development. He leads the company's microarray
consulting practice. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has
authored numerous research articles and patents on biochemistry and informatics.
Jack provided content for GeneEd's Microarray Informatics course.
Sonja Potrebic, M.D., Ph.D. – Assistant Adjunct
Professor, Department of Neurology, University of California at San Francisco.
A graduate of Harvard Medical School and a Diplomate of the American Board
of Psychiatry and Neurology, she has extensive experience in pain management
and anesthesiology. She provided content for GeneEd’s courses on
Neuropathic and Nociceptive Pain.
Sanjiv Shah, M.D. – Cardiology Fellow, Department
of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. Sanjiv is a third-year
fellow, with a research focus on acquired and genetic risk factors for
ventricular-arterial stiffness. Sanjiv provided content for our course
on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Revati Shreeniwas, M.D., F.C.C.P. – Clinical Development
Specialist. Revati has over ten years of clinical experience in providing
medical and pulmonary consultative services, and has served as associate
clinical professor of medicine at Stanford, as well as Assistant Professor
of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University. Her experience, both as a
medical practitioner, and as an expert in clinical research, have made
her an invaluable contributor to our CME-accredited courses, particularly
in the areas of pulmonary medicine.
Sujan Shresta, Ph.D. – Postdoctoral Fellow, University
of California at Berkeley. Sujan obtained her B.A. in Biology from Smith
College and her Ph.D. (Immunology) from Washington University. Her area
of expertise is in cellular immunology, specifically T cell activation
and cytotoxic lymphocyte-induced apoptosis. She provided content for GeneEd’s
courses on Bacteria and Antibiotic Therapy.
Jennifer Watson, Ph.D. – Postdoctoral Fellow in
Behavioral Medicine, Stanford Hospital. Jennifer provided content for
our course on Schizophrenia.
Jay Wohlgemuth, M.D. – Sr. Fellow, Stanford Medical
School; Principal Scientist, BioCardia Corp. Jay is an expert in the field
of cardiovascular genomics, and provided content for GeneEd's advanced
course, "Microarrays."
Chris Zoumalan, M.D. – Chief Resident, Stanford University, Department of Ophthalmology. Chris has written numerous publications and book chapters in various fields of Ophthalmology and Neuroimaging. Chris will soon begin his fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Chris provided content for our Diabetic Retinopathy Course.
